Officer Spotlight

Deb Plue
Shepherd Insurance
AWBO President

I often find myself pondering the famous Chinese proverb by Lao Tzu, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” To share the essence of who and what I am today I must acknowledge my joyful journey began with my parents, who by their daily examples instilled in me the fundamentals of love, faith, optimism, and service to others.

From this vantage point in my journey, I look back at my early adult years as a young wife and mother, my years operating a family retail business, and as an active community volunteer, and I can clearly see the recurring role of caregiver and nurturer emerge. In my younger days as a child of the 50s I may have resisted and resented the label, but now I joyfully embrace it.

Today, I am proud to be an insurance professional serving the needs of business owners. The essence of my profession is taking care of others. It is my honor to earn the trust of my clients as they look to me to protect their families and businesses. Together we identify their risk exposures, implement strategies to eliminate or reduce those risks, and transfer the risk of financial loss to the appropriate insurance product. My reward is to see my clients enjoy their life journey knowing we have planned for the unexpected twist and turns that life brings.

Member Testimonial

Melanie Nemacheck, Health by Mel

Yvone Renz invited me to visit AWBO with her and I reluctantly agreed. Of course, the day I was able to attend, she wasn't there. I was surprised by how many members I already had a relationship with. The featured speakers are always timely and applicable to women in all types of fields. They know how to relate to every person in the room. People do business with people they Know, Like and Trust, so I am eager to learn more about each member in AWBO.

I have found something from each speaker that I could use in my daily life. Right now, I am digging more into the personality shapes/types and how they affect not only ourselves, but our relationships with other personality types.

The most important thing I can tell other women is that AWBO is a group of like-minded women who want to see others succeed. We don't have to compete with one another. We can compliment one another. No one person or business will be a great fit 100% of the time. Some networking groups are very category focused. AWBO invites everyone to the table. What I like about AWBO is that each month I can socialize, network, learn, and build relationships with other women in the community.
